The Western PA Soap Box Derby (WPSBD) is a non-profit organization that was formed to promote soap box derby racing for children living in western Pennsylvania. The WPSBD local race has been operating since 1999 and is serving the counties of Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer.
Our goal is to provide a safe, competitive and exciting race for children ages 7 - 18. WPSBD helps facilitate cooperation between families, local businesses and the local community to host a qualification race for the All American Soap Box Derby (AASBD) world championships held in Akron, OH each year.
The board members of WPSBD work all year to plan the details of the race and organize the event with local organizations. A significant portion of the board’s time is used to raise money to support the local race and to offer financial support to any child who may need assistance to race. Our local champions win a scholarship and financial support to attend the AASBD championship.

Soap box derby racing is fun for everyone ... kids, families, local businesses and local organizations! Soap Box Derby racing offers so many experiences for everyone! Science, technology, fundraising, ownership, car assembly, team building, sportsmanship and racing skills, to name a few.
We are always looking to partner with families, local businesses and organizations to help support the growing interest of Soap Box derby racing. Our greatest need is growing our Board of Directors. We need more leaders with good ideas to continue to provide a great racing program for the youth of western PA.
